ATP Stuttgart: our favourite for the title

A lack of British players
Only young Jacob Fearnley will be defending the British colours in Stuttgart. Ranked 49th, he faces American Brandon Nakashima in the first round of the grass-court tournament. Against the 31st-ranked player in the world, it will be a tight match from start to finish. You can follow the action thanks to our tennis predictions.
Last year, Jack Draper and Andy Murray took part, with Jack Draper beating Berrettini in the final.
An American threat
It was the number 2 seed, Taylor Fritz, who could have been a threat for the title. He won the Eastbourn grass court tournament last year as number 1 seed against Max Purcell, and then went on to win in the British capital to reach the quarter-finals at Wimbledon against Lorenzo Musetti.
But his recent results in this 2025 season should not allow him to arrive confident at this tournament, as he has lost 4 of his last 5 matches and has only managed to string together more than 2 consecutive victories once this season during the month of March at the Miami hard court tournament.
ATP Stuttgart: a German for the title?
The local fans have been waiting since 1991, when Michael Stich was crowned champion, to see a German win another title on the Stuttgart tennis courts. And they could be in for a treat this year, 2025, as the tournament's number 1 seed will be world number 3 Alexander Zverev.
Just a quarter-finalist at Roland Garros against Novak Djokovic, the 28-year-old German seems to particularly enjoy playing in front of his home crowd, having won the title at the Munich tournament in April against top 15 Ben Shelton.
A title won on clay in no way detracts from the German's success on other surfaces, as he kicked off his grass-court season last year with back-to-back wins and a semi-final appearance at the Halle tournament.
Having reached the last 16 at Wimbledon just a few days later, the German should be keen to put in an even better preparation this year to give himself the best possible chance of reaching the next London Grand Slam.
Our prediction for the ATP Stuttgart winner: Alexander Zverev wins!
