Werder Bremen continue their battle against relegation from the Bundesliga. They start this game just a place off bottom spot and host Borussia Monchengladbach who ended Saturday in fourth place. Saturday was a momentous day for Bremen as they boosted their survival hopes with a 1-0 win at Freiburg. That was their first league win since the week before Christmas and ended a run of just a single point from seven games They are still in one of the two automatic relegation places but they only have one loss in the last three league games. Home form needs a lot of repair work though with just one league win in 13 games. Each of their last seven home league fixtures has been lost, even bottom-of-the-table Paderborn beat them. Their last five home games have been lost by an aggregate score of 16-1 with just that single goal in their last six home league fixtures. They have only scored nine home league goals with 30 conceded.

Borussia Monchengladbach lost 3-1 at home to Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday. Any faint hopes of a title challenge probably faded and died as a result of that loss. Now they have to battle to keep in the top four and qualify for the Champions League. They ended Saturday in fourth but a point for Leipzig at Mainz on Sunday would see them drop out of the top four. They will want to bounce back with a win at Bremen. Monchengladbach have won seven away league games this season and are unbeaten in their last four with three wins. That’s a big improvement as they had failed to win any of their last five away matches before this run.
