Guimaraes are set for a third straight home match when they host Bosnian side Zrinjski in the Conference League Play-offs first leg. The two sides are eyeing the competition’s league phase, which will be confirmed in the course of two matches. Here’s our preview and prediction for the match.

It has been all positive for Guimaraes so far in the season. They are coming off two straight wins at home, extending their winning start to the season to six matches. Their 1-0 win against Estoril on Sunday was also their sixth clean sheet in as many games.

While it has all been perfect, Rui Borges may want to see his charges scoring more. In three of their six matches, they managed just a goal and their last three matches had under 2.5 goals.

Zrinjski will head into this game with odds heavily stacked against them. While they’ve started well in the Bosnian league, it is a different story in Europe. In the opening two rounds of the Conference League, they suffered two defeats.

The visitors held their own to advance to this stage after a 3-2 aggregate win against Botev Plovdiv in the last round. A 2-0 win at home in the return leg also marked Zrinjski’s first clean sheet this season. They didn’t have a weekend game and will be looking to benefit from this extended rest.

However, their struggles in this competition could be an impediment. In their last nine Conference League matches, Zrinjski posted just two wins, and failed to score in four. In six away games in the competition, they suffered five losses.
