It's going to be an important few months for 22nd seed Valentin Vacherot. He's struggling for form and in round one of the US Open he takes on Aleksandar Kovacevic. His opponent was a quarter-finalist in Winston Salem last week and our prediction is he will win.

Unseeded Kamil Majchrzak will be faced by the winner in round two of this outdoor hard court Grand Slam.

The final months of 2025 saw Valentin Vacherot win the Shanghai Masters. He'll need to do well there again if he's to avoid plummeting down the world rankings. His current form is not good with his last four matches all being lost.

This is his first time in the US Open main draw having previously been beaten in the qualifying rounds..

These two players have met once on this surface and Kovacevic won in three sets in 2023.

Aleksandar Kovacevic was 89th in the last rankings, 66 places below Vacherot. He is in good form though with a run to the last eight in Winston Salem that included a win over Stefanos Tsitsipas and taking losing finalist Arthur Fery to three sets.

Before that, he had a win over Karen Khachanov in Cincinnati.

He is hoping to avoid a third successive first round loss in New York.
