The USA arrived in China looking to win a third straight FIBA World Basketball Cup. They will leave the country having finished either seventh or eighth in the classifications. The Americans haven't had their best possible line-up available for this tournament which does slightly undervalue the event. The opening group stage saw them nearly defeated by Turkey but they still finished top, Two more wins followed in the second group stage but their world crown was lost when they slid to an 89-79 defeat by France in the quarter finals. More misery followed as they lost to Serbia by five points taking them into this rather lowly 7th and 8th classification match. They did well to get so close to Serbia after a stunning 32-7 deficit in the first quarter.  They take on Poland who are ranked 25th in the world so will be delghted to have made it this far. The Poles won four of their five group matches but then lost to Spain in the quarter finals. Another loss followed when they lost by ten points to the Czech Republic. Now they take on the Americans and the tip is for the USA to win this game on a -14.5 handicap.
