Sweden are the defending champions and end preliminary round Group E with a match against the Netherlands. Sweden have won their first two group matches as have their opponents so both are through to the main round. This is an important game though as points earned against other qualifiers are carried through to the main round. The Swedes began this group with a 29-20 win over Bosnia and Herzogovina. They made an excellent start to that match and were seven goals ahead at the break. They continued their dominance in the second half running out nine-goal winners. That was followed by a Saturday night fixture that saw them defeat Georgia 42-26. The Swedes were in top form in the first half, scoring 23 goals and being ahead by 14 at the break. That win took their winning run to five with their last defeat being to Denmark last April. Sweden have won this tournament on five previous occasions, though four were between 1994 and 2002.

The.Netherlands are playing in only their third European Championships finals. It wasn't until 2020 when they played in their first finals, losing at this stage. Two years later they made it through to the main round and finished tenth overall. The Dutch team qualified for these finals with a secod place finish in their qualifying group. They had lost four successive games in Golden League events in the lead up to these finals. It's gone much better for them though in the last few days. The Netherlands started this group with a 34-29 win over Georgia and on Saturday thumped Bosnia and Herzegovina 36-20. We tip the in-form Swedes to get the win here on a -6.5 goals handicap.
