The end of the international break signals the start of matchday eight in the Primeira Liga. Sporting Braga, sixth in the standings, hosts third-placed Sporting Lisbon in what is easily the biggest match of the round. The last three meetings between these sides were drawn, and it remains the pick in our prediction.
Both teams were shaky heading into the FIFA break, with Braga posting a goalless draw with Santa Clara. That left them on one win in their last three league matches, having also lost to Estrela.
With a game in hand, and on 11 points, this is Braga’s chance to rise into the top five. They are winless in five against Sporting but drew the last three.
Sporting haven’t tasted a league defeat against Braga in their latest eight league meetings. In that run, they posted three wins and will be looking to improve on it here.
The visitors fell six points behind league leaders Porto ahead of the international break, as they drew back-to-back matches. Their last outing, at home against Arouca, was a complete disappointment.
