The whole complexion of this Davis Cup quarter-final changed this week. Carlos Alcaraz won't be playing for Spain and that makes this match against the fourth seeds Czech Republic far more difficult. Read our match prediction below.
Spain lost at this stage in last year's Davis Cup Finals. To qualify for this indoor hard court tournament in Bologna, Italy, Spain have beaten Switzerland and Denmark with Alcaraz not playing in either of those ties.
In his absence, Spain's singles players will be Jaume Munar and Pablo Carreno Busta, both ranked below the Czech players. If this best-of-three rubbers match goes to a doubles decider, Spain have top ten ranked Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martinez.
It was always going to be a tough quarter-final for Spain. The Czech Republic beat South Korea 4-0 in the first qualifying round and then had a 3-2 win over the USA to reach this quarter-final against Spain.
Their squad is a strong one with both Jiri Lehecka and Jakub Mensik in the top 20, ranked 17th and 19th respectively. The Czechs also have world number 32 Thomas Machac and Adam Pavlasek who is ranked 53rd in the doubles.
We tip the Czech Republic to go through to a semi-final against either Argentina or Germany.

Our Spain vs Czechia Prediction
Fourth seeded Czech Republic are worthy favorites to make their way into the Davis Cup semi-finals. They won't have world number one Carlos Alcaraz to face in this quarter-final and that makes their task a little more manageable.
Their two main singles players are both in the top 20 and will be difficult to beat. Spain have Munar and Busta but the latter has mainly campaigned on the Challenger Tour this year. Our Spain v Czech Republic prediction is Czech Republic wins.
