German teams get a first taste of competitive action this weekend as the First Round of the DFB Pokal gets underway and one intriguing match sees Regionalliga side Sonnenhof Grossaspach hosting the team that won this trophy in 2024, Bayer Leverkusen. After earning promotion last season from Oberliga Baden-Wurttemburg to the Regionalliga Sudwest, Sonnenhof Grossaspach have started the season well. Winning their opening two games in superb fashion. They followed up a 6-1 home win over Ballingen on the opening day with a 4-1 win away to Astoria Waldorf at the weekend. Those results see the team top of the fledgling table on goal difference.
It has been a mixed pre-season for Leverkusen and new manager Erik Ten Hag.
