Sevilla have just the right opponent to start their La Liga season with – Rayo Vallecano. Hosting this match, Sevilla have the upper hand, having won 13 of their 21 meetings. That run backs our prediction for Sevilla’s good start to the campaign.
In the last two seasons the hosts have flirted with relegation, only surviving in the latter stages. In 2025/26 they ultimately managed to secure their 26th season in La Liga.
This time they will hope to do things differently, and a win here would pass a strong statement of intent. Their recent home matches against Rayo have been closely contested, each winning once in the last four, with two drawn, but Sevilla will be confident of edging their visitors.
Rayo will not be easy to face, though, as they look to address their failures last season. Key among them will be missing a European football place by a single point despite securing eighth spot.
They would also go on to lose in the Europa Conference League final. Ending the season unbeaten in seven La Liga games (3D, 4W), however, offers some consolation.
