With plenty in La Liga still up for grabs, Real Madrid travel to take on Real Sociedad in the Spanish top flight this Sunday. At the time of writing, both teams are yet to play their Thursday night fixtures. Madrid are second in the table, five points behind Barcelona with a game in hand and eight ahead of Sevilla. Sociedad are in fifth place, two points behind Atletico in fourth and ahead of Getafe, who are immediately behind them in sixth, on goal difference. La Real also have a game in hand. Madrid returned to action with a 3-1 win over Eibar that didn't require them to get out of first gear. It was a lethargic performance that may have been punished by a better team. Sociedad couldn't grace their return with a victory, being forced to come from behind to get a 1-1 draw with Osasuna. It should be mentioned that Sociedad dominated that match and probably would have won if their attackers had been sharper.

On loan from Madrid, Martin Odegaard has been one of Sociedad's best players this season and his performances are expected to earn him a spot in Zidane's squad next season. He had a starring role in one of the surprise results of the Spanish domestic season when Sociedad won 4-3 at the Bernabeu in the Copa Del Rey. It was the third victory for Sociedad in four meetings with Madrid, so there is no longer a fear factor there. Madrid are expected to be without players like Gareth Bale and Luka Jovic but Eden Hazard is fit again and looked dangerous against Eibar. Sociedad are unbeaten in their last five home matches, winning four, while Madrid have the best away record in the division. That away record is the best of a bad bunch, however, and Madrid have lost their last two away fixtures. All signs point to a close contest that should be open and exciting. Five of the last six meetings between these teams have featured at least four goals shared between them. We suggest backing both teams to score and over 2.5 goals.
