The Rajasthan Royals will take on the Gujarat Titans in match 24 of the 2024 Indian Premier League on Wednesday afternoon. The hosts currently lead the league standings, while the visitors are seventh. The Royals look excellent this season and seem determined to make a run at the title, which they have not won since the inaugural year of the competition back in 2008. They have been flawless so far, on eight points after four games, and are one of only two sides, along with KKR, that are still unbeaten. Riyan Parag (185) and Sanju Samson (178) have been the key contributors with the bat, while Yuzvendra Chahal has led the way with ball in hand, currently wearing the purple cap with eight wickets so far. The hosts won the last match between these sides by three wickets and are the favourites in this one.
Meanwhile, the Gujarat Titans are finding it difficult to hit top gear in this season’s IPL. After winning their first tournament in 2022 and reaching the final last year, they have only managed four points in five matches this season. Those points came from wins over SRH and the Mumbai Indians, while they suffered defeats to the Super Kings, PBKS, and most recently, LSG, leaving them with a net run rate of -0.797. Among the major contributors for the Titans this season are Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill, who have added 191 and 183 runs and are ranked second and fourth, respectively, behind Virat Kohli in the race for the Orange Cap. Mohit Sharma and Umesh Yadav have picked up seven and six wickets, respectively, and are in the top ten for the purple cap. While RR won the last encounter between these two, GT won the preceding four in a row before that and need a good result here to keep within striking distance of the top four.
