Philadelphia Phillies vs New York Mets Prediction & Betting Tips - MLB
by Joseph King | in MLB Prediction
A classic NL East rivalry is set for another chapter as the divisions’ third-place Philadelphia Phillies play host to the fourth-place New York Mets. Both teams have been struggling to put together a consistent run of form that would see them challenge the Atlanta Braves at the top of the standings. Philadelphia trail the Braves by 10 games while also sitting six games behind the second-place Marlins. Meanwhile, the Mets have struggled so far to capture the same type of play which saw them tie Atlanta with 101 wins in the 2022 season. New York are six games below .500 and trail first-place by a massive 14 games. The Mets are coming off a 10-8 loss to Houston while Philadelphia lost 5-1 to Atlanta in their last game.
Taking the mound for Philadelphia will be former Met Taijuan Walker. The big righty has a solid 7-3 record this season although is posting a much less impressive 4.31 ERA in 15 starts. Walker is in a fantastic run of form at the moment, allowing only one earned run over his last three starts. Over this time, the 30-year-old has pitched 20 innings while also recording 21 strikeouts. Philadelphia would go on to win all three of these games and have won five of the last six with Walker as the starter. While these numbers have been excellent, Walker did give up seven hits to Oakland in his most recent outing while also hitting a batter. Another day might have seen him allow considerably more than the one run he gave up.
On the other side, Kodai Senga takes the bump for the visiting Mets. The 30-year-old is coming off a rough start in his most recent outing against the Cardinals, giving up four earned runs and two homers in six and two thirds innings pitched. That brings the Japanese’s record on the year to 6-4 in his first MLB season along with an ERA of 3.53 through 13 starts. Despite struggling against the Cards, Senga’s start prior to that saw him pitch a gem against the Pirates. In that start, Senga allowed just one run on two hits over seven innings pitched. Over his last two starts Senga has recorded 14 strikeouts.

Our Philadelphia Phillies vs New York Mets Prediction
Despite a poor run of form which has seen the Mets lose four of their last five, we like their chances in the City of Brotherly Love here. We give New York the pitching edge when it comes to Senga vs Walker which means getting the visitors at an underdog price holds some excellent value. Walker is likely going to regress to the mean sooner rather than later after allowing only one run in his last three starts. The Mets have shown in recent outings that they can certainly put up runs, as it’s been their defense which has let them down. Our Philadelphia Phillies vs New York Mets prediction is for the Mets to win.
