Friday evening in the Association sees the 11th-place Philadelphia 76ers hosting the lowly New Orleans Pelicans. The 76ers are one spot removed from an Eastern Conference play-in position with a 15-20 record while the Pelicans are rock-bottom of the West at 7-31.
After a horrific start to the 2024/25 season which resulted in only three wins from the first 17 games, Philadelphia has since been on the comeback trail. They won their most recent outing at home against the Wizards by a score of 109-103, marking the team’s second win in the last three games.
They’ll look to turn around their form at the Wells Fargo Center where they have won in only six in 16 outings so far.
This has been a throwaway year for the Pelicans who have undoubtedly been one of the biggest disappointments this season. After finishing with a 49-33 record in the previous campaign, New Orleans was expected to challenge for an automatic playoff spot.
Like Philadelphia, the Pelicans have seen major injuries to key players. Zion Williamson has only played seven games so far while Brandon Ingram has only participated in 18.
New Orleans comes into this one following a 119-100 home defeat to the Trail Blazers on Wednesday. It was their second loss in a row following a rare two-game winning streak prior.
