15th seed Peter Wright opens his World Matchplay Darts campaign against unseeded Dutchman Jermaine Wattimene. The winner will face either Ryan Searle or more likely, world champion Luke Littler. Can Snakebite beat Wattinene? Here's our match prediction.
Wright came to the Winter Gardens in Blackpool and won this prestigious title in 2021. The Scottish player hasn't quite been showing that kind of form in recent years and is 15th in the world rankings, 15 places ahead of his opponent in this best-of-19 legs first round match.
He lost in the quarter-finals of the 2025 World Darts Championship. Recent form has not been good with three of his last five matches ending in defeat.
Jermaine Wattimene is the world number 30 and playing in this tournament for the fifth time. The previous four visits to Blackpool have all ended with him losing but he'll fancy his chances in this match,
Last year saw him get to the final of the European Open. His best run in major tournaments in 2025 has been a run to the fifth round of the UK Open tournament. Good recent form was shown by the 36-year-old as he was the runner-up in a Players Championship event held earlier this month.
