Nice’s chase for a Champions League spot continues on Friday with a home game against struggling Lorient in Ligue 1. These two are battling on opposite ends of the league table, Nice in fifth place and Lorient in 16th. Lorient’s survival in Ligue 1 is hinged on their remaining seven matches. At the moment, they occupy the relegation playoff position, two points below safety. Their fate is well in their hands as they have a game in hand as things stand. With Le Havre playing two days later, they can lift themselves off the drop zone with a win here. To achieve that target, Lorient must improve on their recent performances. They are coming from a 2-0 loss to Montpellier, which was their fourth straight winless outing. That outcome also represented the third time in four matches that they failed to score. Lorient have not been great defensively either, managing just one clean sheet in their last 10 matches. They may have avoided defeat in their last two matches against Nice but are winless in four straight meetings. The reverse meeting between these two sides ended in a 1-1 draw, the fourth time in six that this encounter had under 2.5 goals.
