Resurgent Newcastle Falcons will welcome beleaguered Dragons to Kingston Park in Sunday’s Challenge Cup match. In this match, the Falcons and Dragons will be in pursuit of a maiden victory in the competition. Below is our preview and prediction.
Following a challenging start to the season, Newcastle Falcons have turned their fortunes around in recent matches. Their decent form saw them win four games in a row before the recent defeat to Section Paloise in the Challenge Cup.
The 32-19 defeat leaves them second from bottom in their group as they are yet to register any points in the competition. A return to their backyard will hand Steve Diamond’s men confidence after winning their last four games.
Dragons are currently enduring a torrid run of form having started their Challenge Cup campaign with a 14-18 loss to Montpellier. The bonus point defeat leaves them fourth on the log as they occupy the final playoff slot.
The defeat took their string of losses to seven with the team badly needing to turn a corner. The run has left Filo Tiatia’s men anchored to the bottom of the United Rugby Championship standings.
More pressing for the coach will be their abysmal away record which has seen them win only one game in two years.
