The Mumbai Indians will face off against the Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium in the 2024 Indian Premier League on Sunday afternoon. Both sides are in desperate need of a positive result, with the hosts currently languishing at the bottom of the league standings while the visitors are second-bottom. The 2024 IPL season has been a bit of a nightmare for the Mumbai Indians as they are the only side that have yet to score a single point in the competition. They got the tournament started with a narrow six-run loss to the Gujarat Titans, followed by a 31-run defeat against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, and lost their most recent match by six wickets against the Rajasthan Royals on Monday afternoon. However, Mumbai have received one major boost heading into this contest, and that is the potential return of Suryakumar Yadav. His possible return could not have come at a better time for the side, who have been firing blanks in the bowling department, seemingly overeliant on Jasprit Bumrah and therefore need all the batting strength they can muster.

The Delhi Capitals have had a very similar tournament to Mumbai in many ways so far, particularly in the bowling department, where they too have been unimpressive. They failed to defend 174/9 agaisnt the Punjab Kings and came up 12 runs shy against the solid-looking Rajasthan Royals in match two before managing an against-the-odds victory over the Chennai Super Kings at the end of last month. However, the boost of confidence from that win was short-lived as they were completely battered by the Kolkata Knight Riders, losing by 106 runs on Wednesday afternoon. Still, the visitors cannot be ruled out as their batting lineup has looked decent, with David Warner in among the runs again and Rishabh Pant joining him in the race for the orange cap, currently seventh and sixth, respectively. Delhi lost to this opponent by six wickets in last year’s tournament and are the underdogs in this one.
