Defending champions, the Toronto Raptors are in a tight battle with Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Atlantic Division. They have a tough game to start the new year as the Raptors travel to Miami Heat who are clear at the top of the Southeast division of the same conference. The Raptors have a 22-11 season record and that puts them second behind Boston Celtics who are 22-11. Overall, they are fourth in the Eastern Conference and looking good for a place in the postseason. They have played Miami once already this season losing by 11 points. Recent form has seen the Raptors lose three of their last five games as 2019 drew to a close. 

Miami Heat have a 24-9 record and only Milwaukee Bucks have won more games than them in the Eastern Conference. They top the Southeast division, having won 10 more games than second placed Orlando Magic. Miami are third overall in the Eastern Conference and owe a lot of their success this season to their home form with all but one of their 16 games being won. 2019 ended with a loss at Washington but before that they had won five in a row.
