Fresh from winning the Winston Salem Open, 32nd seed Ignacio Buse will hope for more success in New York. Round one of the outdoor hard court US Open sees him face Marcos Girion. Buse is in good form, while Giron is on a losing run so our prediction is a Buse win.
Round two will see the winner up against either Benjamin Bonzi or Alex Molcan.
Before last week, Buse had failed to get past round two of an outdoor hard court tournament this year. He hit top form in Winston Salem and beat Arthur Fery in the final to lift his first title on this surface.
Last year saw him make his way through the qualifying rounds here, but lose in round one.
Marcos Giron is 78th in the latest rankings and that puts him 48 places below Buse.
Giron has reached round two here in the past, but suffered eight losses either in round one or the qualifying rounds.
He made a great start to the new year with a couple of semi-finals in Hong Kong and Auckland. At one point, his outdoor hard court record was 6-2 but since January, it's been 9-9 and he has lost his last three matches on this surface, winning just one set.
