Lucia Bronzetti has equalled her best-ever performance at a WTA 1000 event by advancing to this round. She has fought against the odds to make it this far and now faces her toughest challenge yet.

The Italian, who has needed a decider in all three of her victories, defeated 23rd seed Jelena Ostapenko in the last round. She is now three wins away from overturning her current losing run after moving to 18 wins.

 Advancing to this round has bumped Bronzetti up to 56th in the live ranking.

Cori Gauff was handed a walkover in the last round by Dayana Yastremska. She, therefore, will be much rested and could end up making light work of Bronzetti.

The American is a former Cincinnati champion, achieving this feat in 2023, the same year she became US Open champion. With the year’s final Grand Slam coming up later in the month, Gauff will seek to gain momentum with another title charge.

The world number two has compiled a 34-11 record, leading to the French Open title and runner-up finishes in Madrid and Rome.
