The LA Lakers already have a play-off place secured and top the Pacific Division of the Western Conference. They have a 20-3 season record and look to improve that with a victory over Minnesota Timberwolves. The Lakers have the best  record in their conference and the equal best record with the Millwaukee Bucks. Nine of their 11 home games have been won this season, only slightly worse than their away record where they have only lost once. December started with a loss to Dallas but the three that have followed have all been won, though it was a close one against Portland with only a three-point winning margin. 17 of their last 19 games have been won and that looks almost certain to become 18 out of 20.

Minnesota are third in the Northwest Division with a 10-11 season record. That puts them behind Denver Nuggets and Utah Jazz but they still have a chance of making it to the play-offs. The Timberwolves are in the final qualifying position but the next three teams on the list all trail them by just one win. Minnesota may need convincing that this is the happiest time of the year. Three games in December have all been lost. Another defeat looks likely here, go for the Lakers to win with a -6.5 handicap.
