A tinseltown interleague matchup in Major League Baseball sees the AL West second-place Los Angeles Angels hosting the NL West third-placed Los Angeles Dodgers. This is the first of a quick two game series between these two ball clubs and the first time that they meet up in the 2023 season. The Angels are on a positive run of form and have now racked up seven wins from their last 10 following a 5-2 away victory over the Royals. Their uptick in results means that they now trail the first-place Rangers by just five games in the division and have posted a winning percentage of .554. Taking the mound for the Angels in this game is Reid Detmers. The 23-year-old lefty hasn’t posted the most impressive numbers so far with a record of just 1-5 and an ERA of 4.48 on the year. However, Detmers has shown real improvement in his last two starts and should come into this game in a solid rhythm. The third-year pro is coming off a second consecutive start where he has pitched over five innings while allowing just one earned run. 

The Dodgers come into this game in a worrying state as they have now dropped their last three in a row and five of their last seven overall. LA’s last outing resulted in a 7-3 home loss to the Giants, completing a series sweep for San Fran who outscored the Dodgers by a total of 29-8 over just three games. The runs allowed numbers are alarming for the Dodgers who have now relinquished second-place and have dropped to third in the division. They sit four and a half games behind the first-placed Diamondbacks. They’ll try to bounce back here with the legendary Clayton Kershaw on the mound. The three-time Cy Young winner has impressive numbers; posting a 2.95 ERA and a starting record of 8-4. Kershaw has been in fine form as well, allowing a total of just four earned runs over his last three starts.
