Sixth seed Lorenzo Musetti will begin his Hong Kong Tennis Open campaign with a first-round showdown with the wildcard Coleman Wong. The winner will then proceed to play either Pavel Kotov or Nuno Borges for a place in the quarterfinals. Lorenzo Musetti is coming off a successful Davis Cup campaign with Italy. The European nation won only its second-ever Davis Cup title this past November. Musetti lost his fixture but should have the momentum to start things off here with victory. The 21-year-old had a rocky 2023 season and won just three more games than the 29 he lost. He finished ranked 27th in the world and compiled a 10-10 record on outdoor hard courts.
Coleman Wong will be looking to cause an upset here and record the biggest win of his career. Playing in front of home support should have him fancying his chances here. Wong, who competed majorly in the challenger and ITF circuits last season, ended the year with a 53-27 record. Forty-two of his victories came on hard courts and so too were all the six finals he contested across the two levels. Wong won two ITF titles last season. He was on the court more recently in December and could be not as rusty as Musetti might be. The Hong Kong native starts the season ranked 253rd in the world.
