Liverpool have another big test coming their way as they get to host Aston Villa on Match Day 31 in the Premier League this Saturday. Five points separate the two sides; seventh placed Liverpool have 49 and ninth placed Villa have so far managed 44 points. Hosts Liverpool are coming from a tough game in Spain, where they suffered their seventh defeat in 12 matches in the 3-1 loss to Real Madrid. They did well in their last league game though, beating a poor Arsenal side 3-0 to rise to three points below the top four and a big battle they’ll fight in the remaining games is to get to the Champions League positions. Fatigue will be an issue for Liverpool going to this game after the tough away game, then coming to play a well rested side with no midweek activity. Two straight wins in the league as well as in-form strikers should ease the Reds’ worries though. Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah have scored three goals each in their last four matches for Liverpool but the team has lost six of the last nine league matches. Manager Jurgen Klopp has only the Champions League and top four to play for so he needs a very good balancing act and will be pressured to rest star players ahead of Real’s visit. Liverpool haven’t won a game at Anfield since the victory over Tottenham Hotspur in mid December; they are winless in eight league games at home, with six straight losses ahead of this. The Reds have also failed to score in six of their last eight home league matches and have managed just seven wins in their last 15. From a possible 45 points in the 15 home matches in the league, Liverpool have secured just 23.

Aston Villa are only six points away from the Europa League position and for a team that survived on the final day last season, they’ve made big strides this season. They thumped Liverpool 7-2 in their earlier league meeting this season and that result will be all over Liverpool’s minds when they get to face off again. Villa will hope to take advantage of Liverpool’s slump at home and after their comeback and 3-1 win over Fulham, they’ll look at this as a possible mission. However, they will be without skipper Jack Grealish yet again with reports from the club indicating that he suffered a setback in his recovery from a shin injury. The man who has contributed to 16 Villa goals in 22 matches has been missed for the last seven matches, having last featured on February 13th. While Grealish has been out, Villa have managed just two wins, and scored six times, with half of the goals coming in the win over Fulham. The visitors have failed to score in three of their last five league matches but the win over Fulham will offer much confidence going to Anfield. It won’t be easy though; Villa were forced to dig deep against Fulham and were helped on by a few errors from the visitors. Meanwhile, they go to Liverpool with a run of just two away wins in eight matches and three clean sheets. In the 15 away league matches, they’ve managed seven wins, setting a 47% winning rate and got 24 out of a possible 45 points.
