Lille and PSG are all set for the Ligue 1 season curtain raiser – the French Super Cup. This time the clash will be staged in Israel at the Bloomfield Stadium in Tel Aviv. The two French sides last faced off in April, with Lille carrying the day with a 1-0 win, a big step towards their latest Ligue 1 title. That game saw both teams finish with 10 men as tempers flared towards the end of it. Lille wrapped up their preseason activity on a low, losing 2-0 to FC Porto and having earlier suffered a 1-0 loss at the hands of Benfica. In their four preseason matches, they managed just one win – against Waasland-Beveren. Towards the end of last season, most of their matches weren’t high scoring and none of their last four has seen over 2.5 goals scored. In their last 12 matches, only three have produced over 2.5 goals and their goal scoring form will worry them too, having failed to score in the last two. This will be the first time in 10 years that Lille play a Super Cup clash; the only time they did, they lost 5-4 to Marseille.

PSG go into this game on a much better form, having played five friendly matches in preseason and lost none of them. They have three wins in the five, but with two draws and two clean sheets only. The Ligue 1 giants have conceded twice in two of the last five matches but they’ve scored in each of the five, while in four, they’ve scored two or more goals. This looks like a good opportunity for revenge after being dethroned by Lille in Ligue 1 last season and PSG will be in much better shape psychologically after their transfer dealings. The Parisians have brought in three top players in Georginio Wijnadlum, Sergio Ramos and Gianluigi Donnarumma, while still managing to hold on to their top players and manager Mauricio Pochettino has signed a new contract.
