The only teams to have won the Ligue 1 title in the last nine seasons, Lille and PSG, face off in the highlight clash of matchday two. Giants PSG have encountered early headwinds in their pursuit of another season of domestic domination. As they seek a first win in three outings, Stade Pierre-Mauroy faithful will be out to cheer Lille to a rare win in this encounter.
Lille’s first home game will be their chance to not only slow down a direct competitor for the title but also extend their own good start. PSG are coming from a battling draw with Rennes, which was preceded by a loss to Lens in the Trophee des Champions.
Meanwhile, Lille opened their campaign with a win against Angers. The champions have yet to keep a clean sheet this season, while Lille scored in each of their last five home league games against PSG. This run backs our prediction for both sides to score.

Lille - PSG: Form Analysis
Lille had the perfect start to Ligue 1, as debuting coach Davide Ancelotti led the side to a 2-0 win away to Angers. They now have a massive chance to put a marker of their season’s ambitions when they face the champions. Last season Lille had their highest finish since winning the league title six years ago.
Despite that positive mark, they still wrapped up their season 15 points behind PSG. There’s more riding on their ambition to pin down this PSG side struggling at these opening stages – home form. Les Dogues have won their first home league game of the season in each of the last four campaigns.
In the last nine seasons, only Lille have stopped PSG from winning back-to-back league titles.
PSG are keen for their winless start in domestic action not to extend to three games off the back of a very successful campaign. Les Parisiens expertly battled Lens to win the league title last season, then defended their Champions League crown successfully.
They went on to beat Aston Villa in the UEFA Super Cup, but when domestic action returned, they faltered, twice. It started with a 1-0 loss to Lens in the Trophée des Champions, a frustrating outing that saw Nuno Mendes sent off late. Then came the Rennes game, which saw the champions rise from 2-0 down to draw 2-2.

Lille & PSG Squad Analysis
The last time Lille hosted a side from the capital, Olivier Giroud scored a brace. That was against Paris FC last season. The Frenchman opened the scoring on matchday one against Rennes and will hope it provides the springboard for another such performance here.
His last goal against PSG came 15 years ago while at Bordeaux. That was in a Coupe de la Ligue game in 2011, a season that he also helped Bordeaux win the league. The World Cup winner will definitely want to roll back the years.
PSG will miss Nuno Mendes, who is suspended while Bradley Barcola remains unavailable.
At PSG, a new hero has arisen in the shape of Ferran Torres. The Spaniard recently arrived from Barcelona, a marquee signing. Earlier seen as a replacement for Gonçalo Ramos, he is shaping his own trajectory. Torres, who holds a special relationship with manager Luis Enrique, saved his coach from matchday one embarrassment with a brace in their draw against Rennes.
Coming off the bench after halftime, the man who scored the World Cup winner didn’t need long to endear himself to the PSG fans as he buried two assists from another Spaniard, Fabian Ruiz. After replacing Ousmane Dembele, Torres looks set to start this game.

Our Lille vs PSG Prediction
Lille rarely come out tops in this encounter, but their own start to the season as well as PSG’s slip-ups could offer a chance. The hosts are confident, coming from an away win at Angers, and will hope to build on it, given their history in season-opening home matches.
However, they are facing a formidable side, despite PSG’s struggles. The visitors have dominated even in matches played here and will be looking to carry on in the same way. What isn’t guaranteed, though, is that they can keep a clean sheet. Our prediction for Lille v PSG is for BTTS.
