Schalke face an uphill battle to save their Bundesliga status as they face third placed Leipzig in the final match of the season. This match will be played at the Red Bull Arena Leipzig on Saturday with 17th placed Leipzig knowing a defeat sends them to Bundesliga II. Leipzig secured a stunning 3-1 win at Bayern Munich in their last match. That result not only opened the title race up leaving Bayern two points behind Dortmund, it also secured Champions League football for Leipzig. Their season is practically over now as they are confirmed to finish third. All that is left for them is the upcoming DFB Pokal final against Eintracht Frankfurt. It's possible Leipzig may rotate their squad here.  Looking at their impressive home record this campaign, it is difficult to see them lowering the guard though. Leipzig have won 12 of their last 15 home matches in the Bundesliga making them one of the toughest sides to face at home.

Schalke go into the final match with all different permutations in front of them. A win here won’t be enough to guarantee safety and Schalke also need both Stuttgart and Bochum fail to win, to jump into the safe zone. A draw will see them go into the relegation play-off position if Bochum lose to Bayer Leverkusen. Yet, it won’t be straightforward even though Leipzig’s league season has practically ended. Schalke have lost seven of their 11 Bundesliga matches against Leipzig including four defeats in a row, each time conceding at least three goals. They have struggled on the road in this campaign too, losing three of their last four away league matches.
