Two sides in need of a Serie A win will face off this weekend when Lazio play host to Cagliari on Saturday afternoon. The hosts are currently in 11th place in the league standings, while the visitors are 17th. Fair to say, this season has been something of a nightmare so far for Lazio. After finishing second last term, they come into this match with just 17 points taken in 13 league games and are already seven points off the top four. The Eagles returned from the international break with a 2-1 defeat away to bottom club Salernitana, and that was also their third consecutive league match without a win. However, they have been performing much better in Europe and clinched a spot in the final knockout stages of the Champions League with a 2-0 win over Celtic in midweek. With four games scheduled in the next 12 days, the hosts may be forced to rotate their squad here, which has not always worked well for them this season. 

Meanwhile, Claudio Ranieri got Cagliari back into the top flight last season, but he is going to have his work cut out to keep them here. They have taken ten points from a possible 39 so far and are level with Empoil, who are the first side below the dotted line. However, after failing to win any of their first eight league games this season, the Islanders have experienced a notable uptick in form of late. They held Monza to a 1-1 draw last week and have now avoided defeat in four of their last five matches. That included wins over Frosinone and Genoa, while their only loss in that time was against second-placed Juventus. On the flip side, Cagliari have been very poor away from home. They have not won a game on the road as yet this season and have taken just two points in six games.
