La Vuelta - Stage 19 Predictions & Betting tips - La Vuelta

 by Matthew Newman |

Two of the last three stages are for the fast men, and 19 is one of them. With a long time since the last one, the sprint teams will keep the break on a tight leash, which narrows down the field for our prediction.

The quickest man in the peloton is Jasper Philipsen. He has a pair of wins in Stage 1 and Stage 8 already in La Vuelta, and this stage looks tailor-made for his Alpecin team to lead him out to victory.

Although he is not the quickest, there is little doubt that Mads Pedersen will be the man to go home with the green jersey. It won't stop him from pushing for more points, but it takes the pressure off him.

Runner-up on Stage 1 and Stage 8, Ethan Vernon will like his chances of getting on the podium for this stage. He has 12 wins to his credit through his career, but he has yet to cross the line first in a Grand Tour stage.

Fellow Brit Ben Turner does have a Grand Tour win, having scored in Stage 4 of this Vuelta. That entitles him to consideration back in a more suitable stage. Although Elia Viviani has shown nothing since finishing fourth on Stage 1, he is the type to bounce back.

Our La Vuelta - Stage 19 - La Vuelta prediction

It has been 11 stages since genuine sprinters' terrain has been seen. That makes it seem very unlikely that a breakaway group are going to be allowed anything like enough rope to grab the stage win away from the sprinters.

The number of genuine contenders to win a sprint finish in the peloton is limited. Alpecin has a very strong lead-out train, which can see them come out on top. Our La Vuelta Stage 19 prediction is Jasper Philipsen to win.

Jasper Philipsen to win
