Carlos Alcaraz is on the hunt for a second Masters title in 2025. At the Rome Masters, he will be playing for a quarter-final berth against Karen Khachanov. Read on for our prediction of the fifth match between the two.

Alcaraz has reached the fourth round here for the first time and will seek to go deeper. After winning the Monte Carlo title, Rome remains the only Masters event he hasn’t graced the quarter-final in.

The Spaniard skipped the Madrid Masters and came here well-rested and as a favorite. He claimed straight-set wins over Dusan Lajovic and Laslo Djere in his opening two matches. Alcaraz has now compiled a 26-5 record.

Khachanov lasted three rounds at Madrid and will hope to progress further in Rome. The Russian has never gone past the fourth round in Rome. He lost this stage last season and has only once this season gone past the fourth round.

That was in the ATP 500 Barcelona, where he got to the semis. Having seen his earlier Masters events end in the third round at Indian Wells, Miami, and Monte Carlo, he will hope this break carries a better signal.

Khachanov lost all four previous matches against Alcaraz, three being on clay. With four losses in his last 10 matches, Khachanov will still be the underdog here.
