Eighth seed Sebastian Baez has a fight on his hands to reach the Swedish Open quarter-finals. Round two in Bastad sees him take on unseeded Jesper De Jong. His opponent was the runner-up in this tournament last year and our prediction is he will defeat Baez.
Either top seed Andrey Rublev or unseeded Andrea Pellegrino will be faced in the quarter-finals.
Jesper De Jong won a Challenger Tour clay court title last month. He has also made it to a semi-final on that lesser tour. Recently, he reached round four at Roland Garros with a win over Karen Khachanov before being beaten by eventual champion Alexander Zverev.
He beat Vilius Gaubas 7-6 7-5 in the first round.
Sebastian Baez is 56th in the rankings, 17 places above De Jong. He also won a Challenger Tour clay court title last month. Baez has had more success than his opponent on the ATP Tour this year, but his two clay court semi-finals were both reached in South America.
His form since then has been patchy and he had lost seven of his last nine clay court matches before this week.
Baez was the runner-up here four years ago and a quarter-finalist in 2025.
Round one produced a win over wild card Max Dahlin but he had to come from a set down to get the victory.
