The second quarter-final at the 2026 FIVB Volleyball Nations League will see Japan taking on China on Wednesday afternoon. Ryujin Nippon have not lost a single match in the VNL this year, and we are going with them to secure a commanding victory here as our main prediction.
Japan have been the benchmark in the Nations League this year, having come through the group stage as the only team with a perfect record of 12 wins from their 12 matches.
Ran Takahashi has been the team’s chief contributor in the tournament, scoring 208 points, including 21 service points, followed by Yuki Ishikawa with 154 points in 11 matches.
Ryujin Nippon have now won 14 of their last 20 matches across all competitions as well as each of their last five VNL encounters against their upcoming opponents.
Meanwhile, Japan endured a dismal VNL campaign, finishing bottom of the group standings with only one win in 12 games, but they got through to the final round as the host nation.
Bin Wang leads the team with 13 points, averaging 11.25 per match. Shikun Peng has been the team’s best player on defence, notching up 14 of his 85 tournament points through blocks.
China have lost 18 of their last 20 matches in all competitions and only won a single set in their last four games in this competition.

Our Japan vs China Prediction
China were the worst team in the group stage of this year’s VNL, having only managed a single win in their 12 matches. Given their record and having only got through to the final round as hosts, it’s hard to make much of a case for them in this match.
Japan have been the benchmark in this year’s VNL, as they are the only team to have reached the quarter-finals with a perfect record. Ryujin Nippon have won their last five VNL encounters against this opponent, and we feel they will add another commanding victory to that record here. Our Japan vs China prediction is Japan -2.5.
