Ninth seed James Wade takes on unseeded Joe Cullen in the first round of the World Matchplay Championships. The winner of this match will be up against either eighth-seed Nathan Aspinall or unseeded Wessel Nijman in round two. Here's our match prediction.
This is one of the top tournaments on the PDC Tour and is being played at its usual venue of the Winter Gardens in Blackpool. Some fish and chips and a night at the darts- what more could you ask for?
The first round sees matches contested over the best of 19 legs. Wade is the world number eight and won this tournament 18 years ago.
The Machine is now 42 years old but has won one Players Championship title this year and made it to the final of the UK Open. Earlier this year in a Players Championship event, he recorded his best ever average of 115.92.
Joe Cullen is the world number 24 and will need to turn his form around if wanting to reach round two. His last two matches have both been lost, most recently losing 6-3 to world number 99 Justin Hood in a European Tour event.
The 36-year-old was a semi-finalist here two years ago. We tip Wade to win on a -2.5 legs handicap.
