The Tour de France closes out in Paris, though this is the second year that a new route has been used where the traditional sprint stage has been replaced by a drag up Montmartre three times which makes it more of a puncheurs stage for the likes of Mathieu van der Poel.
The course certainly favours the likes of van der Poel now with the short and sharp climbs matching up with some of the classics in the spring where he has been so strong. He has been keeping his powder dry for this.
Mads Pedersen has the green jersey win safely tucked away in his back pocket no matter what happens in the final stage. These short climbs are fine for him and he is one of the jersey winners who will want to end with a bang.
Fourth on this stage last year was Tadej Pogacar. He was in a breakaway with Wout van Aert late on, just not having the legs on the final climb of Montmartre. He is liable to want to finish strongly once more.
Isaac Del Toro won a similar style of stage in Barcelona on day two of the tour which featured the climb of Montjuïc on three occasions. The white jersey winner this tour, he will stand on the podium but he may be given his head to attack on this stage as well.
