The penultimate day of the Tour de France sees 170.9km ahead of the peloton which includes a massive 5624 vertical metres which is almost 1000 more than the second toughest day of climbing. This is brutal and that can see Tadej Pogacar dish out more punishment.

With household names like the Télégraphe, Galibier and Alpe d’Huez from a different direction to yesterday to climb, this is a stage that very few men in the peloton have any hope of winning.

It is without a question the toughest stage of the tour and even with a huge lead, there will be that desire from Tadej Pogacar to inflict more pain on his rivals and show off his strength as the best rider going.

Richard Carapaz was the winner of Stage 18 and has enjoyed a great attacking tour. He is another of the more natural climbers in the field, which should see him as one of the main contenders. 

This would also be a great opportunity for teenager Paul Seixas to really come of age and show what he can do in the mountains on such a hard stage. He has been excellent in his first Grand Tour to this point.

Other attacking riders like Lenny Martinez, Thymen Arensman and Tobias Halland Johannessen will also be wanting to show up well on their last chance in the race.
