WTA Cincinnati’s seventh seed Iga Swiatek and second seed Elena Rybakina are set to face off in the first quarter-final at the event. These two are well-acquainted opponents, and this will mark a 14th meeting between them. Both are enjoying good runs of form, and our prediction suggests this match will require a decider.

Swiatek is on course to defend her Cincinnati title, and here she faces her toughest challenge yet. The Pole is coming off a straight-set win over Diane Parry, her ninth straight win, within which she bagged her season’s first title.

That gong, in Toronto, was courtesy of a win over Rybakina in the final. It also marked her 32nd victory this season.

Rybakina has won 10 more matches than Swiatek and will be looking at that to inspire revenge here. The two met under a week ago, and Swiatek claimed a straight-set win, denying Rybakina a third title of the season.

The Kazakh has this season hoisted the Australian Open and Stuttgart titles. She will, however, carry a concern here, having lost the most matches this season at the quarter-final level.

Rybakina fell at the last eight in Brisbane, Doha, Rome, and London. She also trails Swiatek 7-6 in head-to-head numbers, having suffered five of the defeats on hard courts.

To advance here, she posted a straight-set win for the third time, beating Diana Shnaider.
