The final curtain this Saturday in the 2024 T20 World Cup will see Australia take on England at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. The Aussies lead Group B with two points, while the English are third with one point. Australia are looking to become the first side in history to hold the title in all three formats of the game, having secured the Test and ODI crowns last year. They made a solid start to the competition, beating Oman by 39 runs in their tournament opener, where Marcus Stoinis put in a Man of the Match performance with both the bat and ball. Stoinis top-scored for the Baggy Greens with 67* in just 36 balls and was supported well by David Warner, who made 56(51). With ball in hand, the Aussie all-round took 3/19 in just three overs, constricting their opponents to just 125/9 in their 20 overs. Barring a 35-run loss to the West Indies in a warm-up match, the Aussies have won four of their last five T20 games, including a clean 3-0 sweep of New Zealand back in February. Australia are the marginal favourites for this match, according to the bookmakers. 

Meanwhile, England’s title defence got off to a far-from-ideal start with their first match against Scotland ending in a no result due to rain. However, most who watched the 10 overs that were bowled in the game would likely agree that England’s performance was some way off the mark as they failed to take a wicket and looked as though they had a game on their hands in a match they were heavily expected to win. The Three Lions’ preparation for the competition included a series against Pakistan last month, which they won 2-0, though they were beaten 3-2 by the West Indies in a five-match series at the end of last year. England have been on a bit of a slide since winning this title back in 2022, as seen in the ODI World Cup last year, where they failed to make it out of the group and ended bottom of the table. Still, despite being the underdogs here, England have been the dominant side in T20s against this opposition, winning 11 of their 23 previous meetings, while the Aussies have won 10.
