Hertha Berlin have not had the best of runs lately, and they will be looking to address this when they host Bayer Leverkusen in the 33rd round of matches. Hosts Hertha go to this clash placed 11th with 38 points while Leverkusen are fourth with 60 points. Hertha seems primed for a mid-table finish, as they cannot go above eighth placed Freiburg. As for Leverkusen, the final two matches are crucial to their Champions League hopes. They can still secure a third place finish but they have Borussia Monchengladbach breathing just below them. Hertha resumed action on a high, with three wins in the first four matches, but have since slumped to three straight losses. They have also lost their defensive mojo. After keeping three clean sheets in the reopening four matches, they have not managed any in the last three, conceding seven goals therein. There is little fault in their attack though, having failed to score in just one of the seven matches, and understandably against Borussia Dortmund. In their last home match, Hertha lost 4-1 to Eintracht Frankfurt courtesy of a second half capitulation, after taking a 24th minute lead. They will be keen to avoid a repeat. However, a long list of absentees through injury may scuttle their chances especially when playing a Champions league contender.

Leverkusen, on their part, have had a fairly good run since action resumed, winning five of the eight played so far. They have scored in each of the eight matches and lost just two – to Bayern Munich and Wolfsburg, who are considerably strong opponents. Their main worry, seemingly, will be in the fact that they have just two clean sheets in the eight matches since resumption. This they have covered for by a prolific attack line, scoring 18 goals. Leverkusen have played four away league matches since action returned and they are unbeaten, with three wins and a draw. They had set off with three straight wins before drawing with Schalke in their most recent away game but they have just one clean sheet in the four league matches – against Freiburg. Unlike Hertha, who have a long list of absentees, Leverkusen will only have Karim Bellarabi and Lars Bender as injury concerns. They lost 1-0 to Hertha in the first leg, and Leverkusen will feel this is a prime time to reap three points with Hertha’s dip in form.
