Germany will host Ukraine in an international friendly match on Monday. Ukraine will use the match to help prepare for their upcoming 2024 Euro Qualifier with North Macedonia. Germany will host next year’s Euro tournament and therefore are not involved in qualifying. They will in the meantime play friendly matches to help prepare for the tournament. Hans-Dieter Flick’s charges have played two friendly matches following last year’s disappointing world cup campaign. They defeated Peru 2-0 but lost 3-2 to Belgium in the space of three days during the last international window in March. Ukraine lost their opening qualifying match against England and will seek to bounce back when they travel to North Macedonia later next week. A win against Germany will have them beaming with confidence going into that Group C encounter. Ukraine have never beaten Germany in the four games they have played each other, including build-up matches. Their best result was a 3-3 draw in 2011, a friendly match that they hosted. Earlier this week, the Ukrainian FA appointed former international Serhiy Rebrov as head coach. The former striker takes over from Ruslan Rotan who had led the team on an interim basis following Oleksander Petrakov’s departure in January. Ukraine have won only one of their last five matches which was a 5-0 thumping of Armenia in the Nations League. They have lost twice in this run and come to this match without a win or a goal in their last two fixtures. This is an area that Rebrov will seek to work on. He will have at his disposal Mykhilo Mudryk and Roman Yaremchuk. Arsenal’s Oleksandr Zinchenko is expected to miss out due to injury. After Macedonia, Ukraine will next play Malta.
