The penultimate match on Day 1 of the 2025 Darts World Grand Prix will see Gary Anderson face Raymond van Barneveld on Monday evening. The Flying Scotsman is ranked 13th, while Barney is 34th, according to the PDC World Rankings as of the cut-off date. Let’s get into the match prediction!
Gary Anderson has been around the block during his incredible career, but the World Grand Prix title has been one that has eluded him, with his best showing being a final appearance in 2016.
The Flying Scotsman secured his 30th PDC Ranking title this year by winning the PC7 against Adam Lipscombe 8-3, and also stormed to the European Darts Grand Prix trophy by defeating Andrew Gilding.
After losing to Josh Rock in the semi-final of the PC29, Anderson suffered a third-round exit at PC30 and is now 6-4 in his last 10 matches across all competitions.
Meanwhile, Raymond van Barneveld reached back-to-back World Grand Prix finals in 2008 and 2009, but has not gone beyond the first round of this competition in the past four years.
Barney plays much less nowadays than in years gone by, but he won his first PDC ranking title since 2021 this year at the PC5, where he beat Stephen Bunting 8-1 in the final.
The Dutchman has failed to progress beyond the third round of the last three competitions he has participated in and is also 6-4 in his last 10 matches.

Our Gary Anderson vs Raymond van Barneveld Prediction
Whenever these two veterans of the game face off, a thrilling matchup is usually what follows, but Raymond van Barneveld has been falling off the radar in recent years and is the underdog in this clash.
However, Garay Anderson has not been firing on all cylinders recently, and while we do feel he will be good enough to win this match, we fancy Barney to pick up at least a set. Our Gary Anderson vs Raymond van Barneveld prediction is over 2.5 sets.
