Frances Tiafoe is one win away from his third US Open semi-final. The 11th  seed faces unseeded Alex Michelsen in an all-American clash in the quarter-finals of this Grand Slam tournament. Tiafoe has won their two previous meetings without dropping a set. Our prediction here is a win for Tiafoe.

In the last four, the winner will take on either second seed Carlos Alcaraz or eighth-seeded Ben Shelton.

In both 2022 and 2024, Frances Tiafoe reached the last four of this outdoor hard court Grand Slam. He is up to 12th in the live rankings and that's 21 places above his opponent. They have had two previous meetings, but this is the first time they've met on this surface.

The last round saw Tiafoe end a poor run of results against Daniil Medvedev. He won that match in straight sets.. 

Alex Michelsen is having the best run in a Grand Slam in his career. This is his first quarter-final and before this year, he had never got past the second round of the US Open.

This tournament has changed all of that. He has had wins over Federico Cina, the 16th seed Brandon Nakashima and then Daniel Merida. All were straight sets victories and that run continued in round four as he beat 27th seeded Tomas Martin Etcheverry.
