Defending champions Sweden face France in the 2024 Men's European Handball Championships semi-final. The winner will take on either world champions Denmark or hosts Germany in the final. Sweden are bidding to reach their third European Championships final in their last four tournaments. The Preliminary Round saw them victorious in all three of their matches. Their first two were won by a total margin of 25 goals. It's been a bit tougher fo them since then though and their final game in that group saw them.beat the Netherlands but by only a single goal. Two points were carried into the Main Round as a result of that win. In the Main Round, the Swedes beat Slovenia but then lost by one goal to Denmark, but then beat Portugal to clinch their place in the last four. Their final Main Round group match saw them lose to Norway by ten goals. Perhaps their minds were on this match but it was still not a good result for them.

France are the reigning Olympic Champions and lost in the final of the 2023 World Championships. They have been crowned champions of Europe on three occasions but not since 2014. The last European Championships in 2022 saw them beaten at this stage. They were drawn in Group A in the Preliminary Round and finished top, one point clear of hosts Germany. Wins came against North Macedonia and Germany but were held to a 26-26 draw by Switzerland. They also took two points into the Main Round and had further wins over Croatia, Iceland, Austria and Hungaryto top the group. France have the momentum and can reach the final.
