The penultimate match on opening day in Week 2 of the 2026 Volleyball Nations League will see France taking on Iran on Wednesday evening. The Roosters have never lost a VNL matchup against this opponent, which sees us backing them for the win as our main prediction.
France had a very poor first week in the 2026 VNL, having beaten Italy in their opening match before losing three in a row to Canada, Turkiye and Germany, while only picking up two sets in those defeats.
Despite those results, Stephen Boyer has been impressive for the Roosters, currently on 68 points, including eight blocks, which places him fifth in the leading points scorer standings after Week 1.
France are in 16th place in this competition and have won just three of their last 10 matches. However, they have won their last six encounters against their upcoming opponents.
Meanwhile, Iran also endured a disappointing start to their VNL campaign, suffering defeats to Brazil, Bulgaria and Belgium, while only beating second-bottom Argentina in Week 1.
Ali Hajipour has been the team’s standout performer, currently the eighth-highest point scorer in the competition with 61. Poriya Hossein is on 54 points, including five off service.
Iran are only above France in the standings on SPL (0.059 to France’s 0.940). Their last victory against the Roosters was at the Grand Champions Cup way back in 2017.

Our France vs Iran Prediction
France made a massive statement by pulling off an against-the-odds victory over Italy in their opening match of Week 1 in this competition, but they failed to follow up, losing their next three games in a row.
However, the Roosters are expected to have a few of their regulars back in the team this week, and they will be determined to move up the standings. This could be a close contest, but we fancy the French to get the result. Our France vs Iran prediction is France wins.
