The cream has risen to the top, and only two teams will be left standing after France and England lock horns in the second semi-final of the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup on Sunday. The winner of this blockbuster clash between Les Bleues and the Red Roses will face either New Zealand or Canada in the grand final on September 27. Check out our match prediction below!
Like clockwork, France are back in another semi-final of a World Cup, but they have never got beyond this stage before, having won the bronze medal in each of the last three tournaments. In the nine editions of the Women’s global showpiece, they have only failed to secure a medal twice (1998 and 2010).
Standing in their way though is England, the two-time champions and runners-up in the last two World Cup campaigns. The Red Roses have finished in the top three in every World Cup and beat this opponent in this very fixture back in 2017. Let’s get into the key stats!

France - England: Form Analysis
France came through the group stage of this competition with flying colours, topping Pool D with a perfect three wins from three matches, and a points difference of +150 - the second best in the competition.
Les Bleues kicked off their campaign with a 24-0 victory over Italy before hammering Brazil 84-5 and rounding off the group stage with a commanding 57-10 victory over South Africa two weeks ago.
Their toughest match of the competition came in the quarter-final, where they held firm to see off Ireland in a closely contested clash, which they eventually won 18-13 in Exeter last week.
France conceded the fewest points of any team in the competition during the group stage!
Meanwhile, given their home advantage in this World Cup campaign, the weight of expectation is firmly on the shoulders of England this year, but so far, they have dealt with it incredibly well.
The Red Roses barely broke a sweat en route to the top of Pool A in the group stage of this competition, recording three big wins against the United States (69-7), Samoa (92-3) and Australia (47-7).
In the quarter-final, they once again showed their class, smashing neighbours Scotland 40-8, with the Scots only managing to score their solitary try in the 82nd minute of the match.

France & England Squad Analysis
France will have to make do without two key players in this match, starting with co-captain Manae Feleu, who was sent off in the quarter-final against Ireland and will have to watch the remainder of the tournament from the sidelines.
It has now been confirmed that Axelle Berthoumieu’s ban for biting an opponent in the quarter-final has been reduced to nine games after she made a public apology. Lina Queyroi is the final confirmed absentee for Les Bleues owing to a concussion.
In light of the absences, Hina Ikahehegi has been brought into the second row for Feleu, Charlotte Escudero will cover Berthoumieu on the blindside, and Carla Arbez comes in at fly-half for Queyroi.
Jess Breach has scored six tries for England in this year’s World Cup!
England, on the other hand, received two major boosts over the last week, with World Player of the Year Ellie Kildunne set to return at full-back after missing the quarter-final due to concussion protocol.
Hannah Botterman feared her tournament had come to an end after sustaining an injury against Australia in the group stage, but she has been cleared fit and comes straight back into the starting 15.
The other changes made by John Mitchell for this match include Zoe Harrison returning to fly-half, and Abbie Ward promoted to the starting lineup in the second row.
