Qualifier Mariano Navone bids to reach round two of the clay court Rio Open. He takes on fellow Argentinian Federico Coria in round one and the winner faces either unseeded Yannick Hanfmann or third seed Nicolas Jarry. Navone is ranked a career high 113th in Monday's new ranking list. The 22-year-old has reached one final this year. That was on clay in Buenos Aires which was on the Challenger Tour. On the ATP Tour, Navone has failed to win a main draw match this year. He qualified for Buenos Aires but then only won three games against Luciano Darderi. The Argentinian had to go through the qualifying rounds in this event and won both of his matches without dropping a set. He has beaten Coria in three of their four previous meetings. This is their first match on the ATP Tour and all but one of their matches has gone to a final set.

Coria is ranked 85th in the latest list, a rise of 21 places after making it to the semi-finals in Buenos Aires last week. He had a good week with wins including one over the second seed Cameron Norrie and two other top 40 ranked players His excellent run ended with a loss in the last four to Facundo Diaz Acosta who went on to win the title. He's still way below his career high of 49th achieved this time last year after geting to the final of the Cordoba clay court tounament. He won two clay court events on the Challenger Tour in 2023 and another one this year. Coria reached the last four in the ATP Cordoba event so is showing good form on this surface. We tip Coria to get the win.
