The MCH Arena in Herning will be the venue for the Champions League match pitting Midtjylland against Ferencvaros. This will be in the first leg of the 3rd qualifying round with both sides coming off home-and-away wins in the last round. Read on for our preview and prediction.
Midtjylland will be playing their third straight home game and are targeting a third win. Right ahead of this game, they downed AaB 2-0 for their second consecutive clean sheet. Their run in the Champions League started on a strong footing as they eliminated Santa Coloma 4-0 on aggregate.
The Danish champions’ domestic run didn’t start as great, but they come here on a five-match unbeaten streak. In that period, they managed three wins. Midtjylland will be motivated by their head-to-head record against Ferencvaros. These teams met twice before, in the 2017/16 Europa League and Midtjylland won both legs.
Hungarian champions Ferencvaros are coming from a 1-0 win against Kecskemét in their domestic league. That Match Day 1 win sets them on a three-game winning run. It came after back-to-back wins in the last round of the Champions League.
Ferencvaros were never under pressure as they eliminated Welsh side The New Saints following a 7-1 aggregate win. Having scored eight times in their first three matches of the season will have Ferencvaros confident going into this encounter.
Still, they’ll be aware the level of Midtjylland’s challenge doesn’t compare to their earlier two opponents. The visitors, however, have a somewhat strong run of form in away matches in this competition. They are unbeaten in the last five Champions League outings played away from home.
