After three successive eighth-placed finishes, Famalicao finally moved up a spot in the league standings last term by earning 47 points, a five-point improvement on their previous campaign. 

Vila Nova ended the season with just one win in their final five league games (W1 D1 L3). However, over the course of the campaign, they only conceded 39 goals, which is the fewest they’ve shipped in a single season since returning to the top flight. 

The hosts were impressive on their home patch last term, ending eight games unbeaten and with a record of seven wins, seven draws, and just three defeats over the course of the campaign.

Meanwhile, Santa Clara made a dream return to the top flight by not just surviving but finishing in the top five to earn a spot in Europe via the Conference League qualifiers. 

Os Acorianos pulled off a stunning comeback in their first European qualifier to beat Varazdin, and took a 3-0 lead over Larne in the first leg of their third round qualifier on Thursday night. 

Given their performances in Europe, the visitors will enter this match with plenty of confidence. They also ended last season with 25 points on the road and unbeaten in their final three away games.
