The 33-18-2 Edmonton Oilers will host a Western Conference matchup in the early hours of Saturday morning when the 26-24-6 Minnesota Wild come to town. The Oilers had a barnstormer last time out, losing in overtime to the Boston Bruins, 5-6. They were 1-4 down in that game, bringing it back level and forcing overtime before succumbing to a Charlie McAvoy winner. That makes it eight games in a row that the Oilers have conceded three or more goals, something that they will want to address with the playoffs looming closer. Zach Hyman continues to lead the team in scoring, adding his 34th of the season against the Bruins. He is adding a strong presence to the already formidable duo of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.
Wild games have been exactly that recently, beating the Vancouver Canucks 10-7 the day before a 3-6 loss at the hands of the Winnipeg Jets. There has been plenty of entertainment for neutrals in those games for all that the coaching staff would be tearing their hair out at the lack of defensive culpability. Things will get no easier for them on the road here against one of the highest-powered offences in the league and a team who are going to be frustrated with their most recent effort. They had won five straight games on the road ahead of the loss in Winnipeg so they will feel that they have the tools to keep up with the Oilers in what could be another entertaining, end-to-end game.
