Cuba will take on Poland in their opening match of the 2026 Volleyball Nations League on Wednesday morning. The White and Reds have won five of their last six matches against the Lions, and our prediction is that they will come out on top in this one as well.
Cuba will be hoping for a better Volleyball Nations League campaign this year after finishing seventh in 2025. However, it was the first time they had reached the VNL Finals, a major positive.
The Lions’ last match ended in a 3-1 defeat to the USA at the World Championships last September. They have not won consecutive games since this tournament in July last year.
Notably, Jesus Cruz has selected a youthful squad for Week 1 of this competition, with Marlon Yant, Jose Masso and Javier Conception among those likely to join later.
Meanwhile, Poland enter the 2026 Nations League as the number-one-ranked team in the world and looking to defend their title after their victory over Italy in last year’s final.
The White and Reds played three warm-up matches this month and won two, beating Bulgaria (3-0) and Ukraine (3-1) after losing to Serbia (3-2). They have only lost two of their last 11 games.
Like Cuba, Nikola Grbic has confirmed that he will be bringing a younger squad for the opening week of this competition, with the likes of Wilfredo Leon and Tomasz Fornal expected to be rested.
